Emergency Notifications

Mahaska County Emergency Management utilizes the IowaA!ert system.  This system will send emergency notifications for severe weather via text, email, or voice calls.

Road Conditions

 A weather radio is a must for any household, business, or organization. Thanks to the NOAA, all hazards radio not only informs you of severe weather, but anything that may affect you, your family, or the entire county. Weather radios are located at retail stores throughout Mahaska County. MCEMA doesn't recommend or sponsor any particular brand.

Mahaska County Emergency Management oversees the maintenance and operations of all the outdoor warning sirens located in Mahaska County.  Currently, there are sirens located in the following communities:

  • Barnes City
  • Beacon
  • Eddyville
  • Fremont
  • New Sharon
  • Oskaloosa
  • Rose Hill
  • University Park
  • Leighton
  • Keomah Village 


As a reminder, the outdoor warning system is for OUTSIDE notification of emergency alerts.  These systems are not made to notify you of emergencies indoors,
